Seal of Quality

The brand, Humboldt-University zu Berlin, is known globally and embodies more than the harmonious unification of research and teaching. It has become widely recognised as an international archetype, proudly standing for scientific excellence.

The origins and scientific nature of a spin-off from the Humboldt-University is easily communicated via simple means - the so-called Seal of Quality, which is based on the famous HU emblem. This visual form creates a positive image transfer from the strong brand of the Humboldt-University towards the weaker brand (being yet unknown) of the spin-offs. Thus it increases the attractiveness to investors and other stakeholders.

The Humboldt Seal of Quality stands for ambitious and genuine spin-offs and is a symbol for the competent, high-grade transfer of knowledge and technology between science and business.

Spin-offs, which carry the Seal of Quality in compliance with the respective criteria mentioned below, are allowed to use it in all of their public relations. In this way, they consistently show their affinity to the university - even in the period after their start-up.

Silver Seal

 

Spin-Offs carrying the Silver Seal of Quality must first comply with the following criteria:
  • A legal company has been founded or the founding of the company is pending.
  • A minimum of one member of the founding team is or was a student at the HU – having completed their studies no longer than five years ago.
  • The business plan and the business model, including the finance plan of the spin-off, has been evaluated and approved by the HI.

Gold Seal




Spin-Offs carrying the Gold Seal of Quality must first comply with all criteria of the Silver Seal, in addition to the following points:
  • The Spin-Off holds patents, licenses or other rights.
  • The Humboldt-Innovation holds equity in the Spin-Off.
